SHoDH-JNU organised a Round Table Discussion on “Artificial Intelligence and Society”

A Round Table Discussion on Artificial Intelligence and Society was organised by Students for Holistic Development of Humanity (SHoDH)- JNU unit in JNU campus. AI, which is the hot topic given the unprecedented advancement in its applications, attracted participants from different streams from universities such as JNU and DU. Six distinguished speakers – Prof T.V. Vijay, Prof. Zahid Raza, Prof. Manji Khari, Prof. Ratneshwar, Dr. Poonam Aggarwal, Dr. Piyush Pratap Singh talked about various aspects of Artificial Intelligence. SHoDH National Convener Shri Shashank Tiwari was also present in the event. The event was chaired by Prof. T.V. Vijay and moderated by Shashank Tiwari. SHoDH Delhi Convener  Shreya Malik was also present.

Given the title of the round table discussion, the speakers talked about multiple facets of AI such as Cloud Computing, Natural Language Processing, Cyber Security, Microsystems and Services, among others. The event was an effort to initiate dialogue within social sciences about growing salience of AI and our increasing dependence on it. The speakers talked about its profound impact on all the sectors of society like healthcare, education, marketing, machine learning, agriculture, to name just a few. Prof T.V. Vijay said that with AI, we are able to process and analyze vast amounts of data quickly, making it easier to find and access the information we need.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of students and researchers who asked important questions related to impact of AI on society. Prince Kumar Singh, Convener SHoDH-JNU brought the event to a close with vote of thanks and said that more events on other aspects of AI are being planned under this initiative.
